Wow….

Almost august! Things should get very interesting here in Ludington in the next week or so, the next 3 weeks typically give up the biggest, baddest, meanest King salmon of the year!! We still have a handful of morning openings if you are looking to get out on the water.

The fishing as of late has been kind of up and down, our water hasn’t been very stable due to changing wind and the fish are on the move, looking for pods of baitfish and chasing water temps. It’s been a mixed bag of King, Coho, Steelhead and Lake trout as of late. There are good numbers of younger Kings around and big mature fish are available but seem to be pretty scattered. The future looks bright for the next few years. Its still mostly a spoon bite, but I’m guessing that will change very soon. Time to bust out the plugs and meat very soon.

Kings are still hanging around Ludington!!

It’s been a great June here in Ludington, we have had some amazing Chinook fishing this year, plenty of baitfish hanging around and several year classes of hungry King salmon. It’s been one of the best starts to the season I can remember.

For the most part it’s been a spoon bite, standard size stingers have been the best on my boat, most likely due to the smaller baitfish that are in the area. Also pulling a few flasher fly rigs on low divers and deep riggers.

I sure hope that this great fishing continues!!

We do have openings if you’re looking to get on the water this summer, please call or text us at 231-250-9745.

Summer is here!!

The kids are out of school and it’s time to make those summer vacation plans! The fishing in Ludington has been pretty good the last month or so, King salmon are making up the bulk of the catch, with a few cohos, lake trout and steelhead mixed in. The fish look very healthy, and we have seen plenty of bait around, both in the lake and in the harbor. It’s been a mix of flasher-flies or meat rigs on divers and spoons covering most of the other rods. Nows a great time to book a day with us on the lake before summer slips by and our calendar fills up.

July 7 21

Summer is flying by as usual! The fishing in Ludington has all about location. One thing for sure it seems like this year has been much windier than normal. We have been moving and rescheduling a lot of trips due to winds. One the nicer days that we have been out the fishing has been decent for the most part. Offshore fishing has been producing steelhead, lake trout, cohos and a few immature kings.

Short coppers and lead cores with orange spoons have been the most consistent, though divers with flashers and flies have taken lake trout through out the charter. The mature kings are starting to show up, though not in big numbers. Look for this to change in the next week or two.

If you are looking to get into the big kings now is the time to book your charter before all the open dates are gone.

May 25 2021

The Hattrick has been in for a few weeks now, and the fishing in Ludington has been great. Mostly lake trout until a few days ago when our spring Kings showed up. We are catching some really nice 8-12lb Lakers and some very healthy kings pushing 20 plus pounds. There have been several over 30 pounds caught out of west Michigan ports already tis summer.

For Lakers…its been spin-doctor’s and spin n glows on the bottom…For kings….a good mix of flashers and flies as well as spoons.

Give us a call to get in on the action!!!!

Almost time to switch gears

I still have about a 5 weeks to go until I’m finished up on the river and switch gears towards the big waters…I’m really looking forward to fishing lake Michigan this year…..And I hope to see many of my great clients and friends back on the boat.

Now is a great time to reach out and book your summer trips…May and June are 2 months that offer great fishing and are often overlooked. Give us a call and get your trips booked.

Sept. 28 2020

The wild ride of 2020 on the lake is over, looking forward to 2021 already!!!

Our season on the big lake ended just after labor day 2020, it was a crazy start to the year and a finish that lacked those high levels of excitement. Fishing was ok to good most days, with a few slow days mixed in. I’m looking for a much improved 2021, plant numbers have been on the rise, and we should see an increase in the salmon in 2021.

I want to thank everyone that supported us this past season, without your business, we could not survive. Thanks also to those than called to inquire about a trip, I’m sorry that we could not make room in our schedule and hope to hear from you again next summer.

Thanks again!!!!
