Summer is in full mode in Ludington,

The fishing has been interesting to say the least in Ludington, we are still catching good numbers of lake trout with the occasional steelhead and king salmon mixing in. There are kings getting caught daily, just not in huge numbers, therefore we have been mixing up our presentations to best target multi species of fish.

Best trout rigs are flashers on the bottom with spin and glows and dodgers with spin and glows.

King baits….plugs, flashers and flies, mag spoons. My best flasher fly rigs have been white blades with green flies. Moonshine spoons seem to be the best in my boat.

I’m hoping that when the numbers show up its in huge numbers and the fishing really takes off.

Give us a call we still have openings for the season.

June has arrived…..

The month of June is pretty much a mixed bag option, Lake trout are currently filling in for the King salmon we had here last month…though a few salmon and steelhead are being caught daily. The kings will be big this summer when they return in numbers.

Fishing near the bottom with flasher and dodgers with spin n glos will do the damage on the lake trout. Flashers with meat rigs and flies will be the best option for salmon. Try orange spoons up higher for steelhead.

Plenty of openings, if you are looking to get on the water give us a call.

May 24 2020

We are OPEN and legally allowed to run charters…..so give us a call.

We are taking all precautions to limit everyone’s exposure to the covid virus, the boat and gear are cleaned after every trip, sanitizer is available. Masks are also recommended.

The fishing is heating up in the Ludington area, both Kings and lake trout are available in decent numbers. Also a few steelhead.

We are taking salmon on every type of gear, meat rigs, flasher flies and spoons. The water is cold top to bottom so it pays to cover the entire water column. Lakers are typically bottom oriented fish but in cold water they can also be found near the surface.

Plenty of open dates, so give us a call for a fun trip on the water.

We are OPEN for business !!!!

The governor lifted the closure on out fishing/charter business and we are allowed to operate now!

The Hattrick should be in the water by the end of next week and ready to fish the following week. I will update again when this is solid. All of the boatyards are backed up at this time so the launch date may be adjusted.

As for the fishing, from what I’ve heard its been pretty good. Kings, browns, lakers and steelhead are being caught in Ludington right now, we could use your support now more than ever after loosing the majority of our spring steelhead season. Book an early summer trip and have a great time locally. Masks are required as is social distancing, so for now we are limiting our charters to 4 clients max.

More info coming soon!!!!!

The year of the monster king….

Although we have only boated one fish over 30 lbs, we have lost some really big fish….mostly due to lengthy battles and pulled hooks, very few break offs. The king numbers are lower than we would like for sure, but the size of the fish is impressive. All of the fish are well fed and above average weight for their size and species. This is due to the management by our Dnr…the plan was to lower the number of predators and allow the Alewives to re populate, well…this has worked. for 3 years now we have seen the baitfish numbers grow, along with the size of the fish. The lake has changed so has the fishing long gone are the days of 10-20 king salmon filling the cooler…I’m sure these days will return in coming years as the salmon plants increase.

We are catching some fat cohos and steelhead as well, the toughest part of late is the lack of a steady pattern….spoons, flashers with flies and meat are all producing but colors and depths are changing daily. This makes it hard to field a trolling pattern that catches numbers daily. Very few fish are eating plugs….Meat rigs are best for the big kings. I only run the Familiar bite strips, they are cut perfect and fit the bait heads well.

Finally…..the kings are here…although the numbers have varied from trip to trip, there are some really big fish around. Monday we boated a 32 pound king and a 29 pound king. Hope the fishing holds and even improves as we go through the next few weeks.

Flashers and meat rigs are the best for big kings….the new familiar bite strips are working very well for us. Plugs are taking a few fish as well, the waters cold and the fish are in the top 60 feet for the most part.

Call us for a great day on the water!!

Summer is flying by!!!

The fishing in Ludington the last few weeks has been interesting to say the least…The catches have been a mix of mostly lake trout, 2-3 yr old kings an occasional steelhead and a few…very few adult kings…This should all change any day now…as we move into July. We are looking forward to the return of the adult kings. There should be some monsters this season…im expecting several fish near 40lbs to be caught in Ludington this summer.

Prime time is almost here!!! If your looking for a great time on the water get ahold of us to lock it in. Summer will be gone before you know it.

Flashers with familiar bite strips have been best for the bigger kings…spoons have been taking steelhead and juvenile kings…fishing the bottom with dodgers and spin and glos will get the Lakers fired up.

Great start in Ludington, good numbers of Kings are in the area as well as some Lake Trout. The Kings are running from 5-20 lbs on average. The water is cool and the fish are spread from top to bottom in 100-200′ fow. Now is the time to book your fishing charters, no need to wait..the fish are here now.

Spoons on riggers and coppers…blues ,greens, purples and moonshines are all working. Flashers and flies as well as meat rigs are all producing. For Lake Trout drop it near the bottom, spin and glos behind dodgers and flashers are getting action.

Sorry for the lack of photos, due to our photo uploading program making a bunch of changes, we are working to solve the problem.

Almost May….

I will be waxing my boat this weekend and getting it ready to launch the first week of May. The reports on the lake thus far are encouraging, good reports of silver fish in the south end of the lake. Cohos, kings are getting caught as well as a few browns and lake trout. May in Ludington can offer some of the best fishing of the season, the fish are hungry and ready to feed…now is the time to give us a call and get in on the May and June bite.

Still winter, but my thoughts are starting to turn towards spring and summer fishing on the big waters. Its never to early to get your charters booked and your preferred dates locked in. Summer will be here before you know it.
