Ludington Fishing Reports Category

August 23 2016

Seems like forever since I last reported on the fishing….truth is it has not been as long as it seems, I had a problem with my web site and lost a bunch of reports, including the most recent additions. The good news is that it has been taken care of and we are back to normal.

As for the fishing, we have been fishing most days and the catches have been respectable with 7-10 nice kings and a Coho or two mixed in. Water temps are up so we are not seeing many steelhead or lake trout. The morning fishing has been much better than the afternoon or evening fishing on my boat.

The tackle has been pretty typical for this time of year, flasher and meat rigs are the best most days, with flies catching a few as well. Plugs and glow spoons are working early in the dark. Play around with your flasher-meat rig combos until you start hitting fish.

We still have some morning openings here and there and would like to get you on the lake and into some fish. Give us a call or text @ 231-250-9745 or send us an email.

Return of the King!!!

Although we are not seeing huge numbers….or even big numbers of Kings around, we are catching some really really nice fish! This week we have boated kings that weighed in at 22-24.5 lbs. Some boats report Kings to almost 30lbs. Hopefully the numbers of Salmon increase in the coming days and weeks. Some big Lake Trout as well as the occasional Coho and steelhead are being taken as well.

I have been running mostly meat rigs loaded with the new Familiar Bite Herring strips. The new strips are even better than those before. I highly recommend you grab a few packs and try them out.

Flashers and flies are taking a few fish as well. Plugs as well.

Give us a call to hit the water this summer.

Summer silver !

We are finally seeing better numbers of King and Coho salmon, for the better part of the last 2 months we had to sit back and watch as the Wisconsin fishing fleet flooded fishing reports with photos of huge catches of BIG King salmon, well finally we are seeing more bait and many many more salmon in our waters. This past weekend was the Ludington tournament and there were some big Kings boated, many fish topping 24-28 lbs. We are also seeing better numbers of Coho, the lake trout are still around and a steelhead here and there.

The kings are preferring the typical fare, flashers and meatrigs and flashers and flies.

If you are looking for a shot to get on the lake and wrestle with a big salmon, give us a call. We still have plenty of openings, even a few weekend openings.

Summer seems to be flying by !!

Its now the first week of July and we are should see our King salmon fishery take off in full force any day now, the Chinook numbers on the Wisconsin shoreline have been unreal, with both numbers of fish as well as very healthy fish topping out at over 30lbs. This past weekend we did see a few big kings in the catches off the ports of Ludington and Manistee. Early this week there were kings in the upper 20’s to low 30’s caught off west Michigan ports. We should see some master angler class fish this year in King, Coho and Steelhead this summer.

The fishing in Ludington is still in a June pattern for the most part, either nearshore for a mixed bag of Lake trout with a few Steelhead and Salmon mixed in, or offshore hunting for thermal breaks and targeting Steelhead for the most part.

Best rigs have been Silver dodgers with spin and glo’s or small flies for the lake trout or high lines fished near the surface with short coppers or leadcore with small to medium sized spoons. Looking for a big king?? Load up with meat rigs baited with the Familiar bite herring strips.

Give us a call to lock in a trip with us!

Summer Fun !!!

Its been a pretty typical June here in Ludington, for the most part its been an offshore fishery with Steelhead and suspended lake trout making up the majority of the catch. With the odd Coho salmon mixing in here and there. Trolling fast with surface lines loaded with orange spoons such a mini streaks in Jerry Lee, orange chilly willys, and yeck fire balls have been the best. Stinger dbl orange crush on a gold blank has had its moments as well.

Nearshore lake trout fishing has been good as well. These fish like cooler water on the bottom and can be tough to locate, but when you do they seem to be there in good numbers. Dodgers trailing small flies, spin and glos are the top menu items.

Great reports of King salmon on the Wisconsin shoreline have been coming in regularly, I’m looking forward to these fish making their way to the Michigan shoreline soon. Many fish weighing in at 25 plus pounds.

We still have plenty of open charters both weekend and weekday trips are available.

June 13 2016

June is already almost half way through!!

Ludington has been fishing well this summer, as of lake its been a mix of Steelhead, Lake trout and King salmon. The offshore water has been consistent for a mix bag, inshore in 80-120 fow for Lakers and Kings. Try flashers and meat rigs for the Salmon, Dodgers and spin and glos or small flies for the Lakers. Offshore…fish high in the water column, troll faster and run several orange spoons in your spread.

We still have plenty of great dates available for the rest of the summer, please call or email for more information.

May 15 2016

The Hattrick is in and cleared its inspections and ready to fish!!

Lake trout have been making up the majority of the catch as of late, a few cohos, browns and steelhead are around as well….I am betting the Kings show later this week. Fishing on or near the bottom with dodgers, spin n glows or small flies are working well.

Give us a call if you need to get a good dose if hydro therapy.

About a week away!!!!

Getting pretty excited now, my river trips are winding down for the spring and the big boat is getting prepped for its spring launch. It will get waxed this week and tuned up, should be in the water around May 1. Then hopefully good weather cooperates and we can get some fishing in.

Too much doom and gloom in the media now a days…..

I’m sure by now many of you have heard about the reduction in planting that the great lakes are going through. Yes this is true, but they have been reducing chinook stocks lake wide for many years. We are in good shape in the Ludington area because of the natural reproduction that takes place in our local rivers. Are we going to catch huge numbers of kings on every trip?? Most likely not, but we will still have some really good days on the lake with Kings,Cohos,Steelhead and Lake trout filling in the catch. The lake will be a bit more diverse in the future until the baitfish populations rebound. The fishing and catching will still be as fun as always. They are called the great lakes for a reason….they are GREAT ! Still plenty of fish out there for us to catch.

We are really looking forward to a great summer on the lake and hope you will choose us for your summer fishing destination. please call, text or email if you ever have any questions. Now is the time to get your dates locked in.

September 19 2015

Already over…..

Its that time of year again, the big lake season ended for me on Sept 8 and I was busy on the river on Sept 10. This summer flew by way to fast!!

The fishing this summer on the lake was much improved for the most part and I am already looking forward to next years season on the lake.

I would like to say “thank you” to all of those that had a chance to fish with us and those that called and inquired about fishing with us. Without your support we would not be able to do what we love.

Thanks for a great summer, hope to see you all in 2016
