The big boat is in the water and its time for me to switch gears to fishing the big waters of lake Michigan. It was a great fall, winter and spring season for usĀ on the rivers. We are really looking forward to this summer on the lake.

There have been great reports from around the lake of some fantastic brown trout fishing with a scattering of lake trout and salmon mixed in the catch.

I will be on the water in the coming days with a up to date report.

Its time to check your calendar and get your summer dates locked in.

September 10, 2014

Another fun summer on the lake has come to an end for me, as I started guiding on the river last week.

The fishing this summer was great at times and challenging others. I feel it was better than the summer of 2013. With a good mix of salmon and steelhead most of the summer. We had our best catches (numbers wise) early in the summer. May thru mid- June was great! This is very typical most years as the fish come close to shore due to the warming waters and the spawning baitfish…

I want to thank all of you that have fished with me over the last 10 seasons…it has been fun! I cant wait till next year already. Its never to early to book for next summer.

Thanks again!!

August 21, 2014

After a very long week and tougher fishing than we are used to last week, the fishing has greatly improved this week.

From Pentwater to Manistee the fishing was great the last few days. Big Kings, Cohos,Steelhead and even a few lake Trout are being caught.

Meat rigs have been hot !! Rigers, divers, coppers…all loaded with meat rigs are producing.

If you have not tried the Familiar bite meat strips, you are missing out! Perfect cuts, durable, real herring!

Ace Hi glo plugs have been going well in the dawn and dusk hours.

I still have a couple morning openings available if you are looking Aug 26,28

As well as openings for guided salmon and steelhead trips on West Michigans prime rivers for September through December. I begin guiding on the river September 5

August 10, 2014

We have been very busy the last ten days or so…..We still have openings, don’t hesitate to call.

the fishing early last week was great….big kings and there seemed to be plenty of them…by weeks end and over the weekend they moved and we could not find them.

The best king bite was at first and last light on the bank and inside 100′ fow.

Offshore fishing for steelhead, lake trout and a few salmon was my best fishing.

hot rigs…

various copper lines from 50′-300′ spoons up high, meat rigs down deep.

downriggers early and divers were hot at times and ice cold others.

Hot spoons were silver streak minis in mixed veggies, double Dutch, jerry lee and orange chilly willy, Yeck fire ball, stinger goldie locks, double orange crush.

Meat rigs…all over the board, show time,Kevin’s girlfriend, life’s good spin doctors all baited with the familiar bite herring. The best meat bite was early and late.

Todays big blow from the north should mix things up.

We have openings this weekend !

The fishing over the last few days has been hit or miss for this time of year. Fish are being caught on all of our charters.

The fish have been scattered due to the ever changing wind directions, one day it blows from the north, then several days of good winds from the south. The fishing starts to stabilize….then it blows from the north and scatters the fish again. There are a few areas that the fish are concentrated, but those spots change almost daily.

Hot spoons

Silver stream mini’s in- mongoose,Jerry Lee,double dutch and carmel dolphin

Stinger goldielocks. double orange crush

Meat rigs- showtime with cold steel, blue and yellow sparkler with UV teaser rigs,

Black flashers with green flies

Give us a call and lock in a day on the lake!

July 21, 2014

If you are looking for a Saturday morning charter, the only Saturday AM charter I have left is August 2. I do still have a few Sunday am charters available. Weekday openings are also available.

The Tournament is over and info will flow a little more freely in Ludington.

Over the weekend the best “charter” fishing was offshore…A mixed bag of Kings, Coho’s, Steelhead and Lake Trout. The key was to fish the temp breaks…either the edge of the cold and warm, or try to stay in the cold.

Flat lines and short coppers were best with silver streak mini streaks in orang crush, Jerry Lee, mixed veggie and chilli goose. Stinger goldie locks were also hot.

Meat rigs with white flashers and Ok’i Kingfisher flashers in the black mamba with cold steel or red teasers and red bait heads were good deeper for kings. I only run the Familiar Bite herring strips. They are the best on the market.

July 13, 2014

We do have openings this weekend for those looking to get on the big lake…the weather this week looks great, perfect for fishing!!!

We are rolling into tournament weekend here in Ludington, so info will be a little harder to get.

The fishing over the weekend was good for a mixed bag of fish. There seemed to be fish nearshore and off shore with no real area producing many big fish. But a good mix of Kings from 6-16 lbs and Steelhead and Lake trout of mixed sizes.

The offshore fishing has been in the top 40′ nearshore top to bottom.

In an effort to fill the books a bit more, we are running a couple of JULY specials, please contact us for more information on July fishing charters!!

The fishing in Ludington has improved the last few days, it looks as if we may have made it through our late “June” slow down. With the cooler spring eveything seems to be a couple weeks behind. But it looks as if that is behind us, the stable weather pattern we are in for the next ten days should help as well.

Pretty typical baits are producing.

Spoons in oranges up high for steelhead and young salmon

Darker spoons fished deeper and on long coppers for mature kings

Meat rigs baited with the Familiar bite herring strips. Brighter flashers and teaser rigs have been best when its been sunny. Whites have been good most days as well as greens. Glow teaser heads have been best.

Be ready to adjust your spred based on water temps and light conditions.

June 30, 2014

We still have openings for this coming holiday weekend, both am and pm openings available.

The fishing in Ludington has been a little hit and miss for the last week or so. Our inshore fishing slowed last week due to the winds moving the water. The fsh scattered. The offshore fishing was just getting set up. Although it was way offshore. There were good numbers of steelhead, lake trout and salmon out there. Mostly a spoon program with high lines and short coppers and leadcore working best.

Now we have several days of south winds, this should set up the bank and hopefully create a thermocline and concetrate the bait. The Salmon fishing should be better this week. Load up the meat rigs and flashers if this happens. The fish should be down 70′ plus by mid week.

June 20, 2014

THe great fishing in Ludington continues. I have been on the river guiding for smallmouth bass and trout on and off between fishing the lake. The fishing everywhere has been unreal this year. I dont think I have heard of a bad report on either inland lake, river or big lake this season.

The fishing has just been GREAT this year!!!

Its still a mixed bite in Ludington, spoons and meat rigs are getting bit.

Brighter spoons fished in the top 50′

Greens and blues fished 50-75′

Meat rigs fished 40-90′ down baited with the new and improved Familiar bite premium herring strips. The fish dont seem to picky on colors on the meat rigs.
